What protective equipment do welders need to wear during work?

1. Safety requirements for eye and head protective equipment

(1) To prevent the hazards of welding arc and spark burns, welding protective masks and welding filters that meet the working conditions should be selected in accordance with the requirements of GB3609.1 Welding Protective Equipment.

(2) Welder masks can be handheld, head worn, or a combination of safety helmets and masks. The shell of the mask and helmet should be made of flame-retardant or non combustible insulation materials that do not irritate the skin. The cover should cover the face and ears, with a sturdy structure and no light leakage.

(3) Head mounted face mask, used for various arc welding or high-altitude welding operations, with a weight not exceeding 500g (excluding accessories such as lenses).

(4) Auxiliary welders should choose to wear masks and protective goggles that are suitable for shading performance according to working conditions.

(5) For gas welding and cutting operations, corresponding models of protective goggles should be selected based on the thickness of the welded and cut workpieces.

(6) Preparation for welding and cutting, cleaning work, such as polishing welding joints, removing welding slag, etc., should use anti slag glasses with lenses that are not easily broken into pieces.

2. Safety requirements for welder work uniforms

(1) Welding protective clothing should be selected based on the characteristics of welding and cutting work.

(2) During overhead welding and cutting, in order to prevent sparks and slag from splashing onto the head and shoulders from high places, the welder should wrap a towel around the neck, wear shoulder protectors made of flame-retardant materials, long sleeves, aprons, and shoe covers, etc.

(3) The work clothes worn by welders should not be damp. The pockets of the work clothes should be covered with pockets, covering the waist. The length of the pants should cover the shoe upper. There should be no damage, holes, or gaps on the work clothes, and oil or grease should not be allowed.

(4) The work clothes for welding and cutting operations cannot be made of general synthetic fiber fabrics.

3. Safety requirements for welding gloves

Welder gloves should be made of wear-resistant, radiation resistant leather or cotton canvas and leather composite materials. The length should not be less than 300mm, and they should be sewn firmly. Welders should not wear gloves that are damaged or damp.

4. Safety requirements for welding protective shoes

Welder protective shoes should have insulation, heat resistance, non flammability, wear resistance, and anti slip properties.

5. Other protective equipment for welding and cutting

(1) In welding and cutting workplaces, due to arc radiation, slag splashing, and affecting surrounding vision, arc protection rooms or screens should be set up. The screens should be made of non combustible materials and coated with black or dark gray paint on the surface. The height should not be less than 1.8m, and there should be a 25cm gap for air circulation at the bottom.

(2) The safety harness used by welders during welding or cutting operations in areas where falling may occur should comply with the requirements of GB6095 Safety Belts. The hook of the safety rope on the safety harness should be securely fastened.

(3) The safety helmet used by welders should comply with the requirements of GB2811 Safety Helmets.
