Can pure cotton be anti-static, and can pure cotton work clothes replace anti-static clothes?
Pure cotton fabric has an anti-static effect, so many people mistakenly believe that work clothes made of pure cotton fabric can effectively prevent the generation of static electricity. In order to save costs, some companies will choose to use pure cotton fabric instead of anti-static fabric. So, let's analyze the safety hazards of replacing anti-static work clothes with pure cotton work clothes?
Anti static clothing is a type of special work clothes, widely used in important economic pillar industries such as petroleum industry, chemical industry, semiconductor, medical equipment, biopharmaceuticals, food processing, electronics, precision instruments, etc. It has the characteristics of anti-static, washing resistance, and is not affected by environmental temperature and humidity.
Why can anti-static clothing prevent charge accumulation? In order to prevent the accumulation of static electricity on clothing, anti-static clothing is made of special anti-static fabrics and sewn according to specific styles and structures. It is woven with conductive wires mixed in, usually uniform stripes and grid conductive wires. The spacing between conductive wires is usually 0.25 cm and 0.5 cm, and the shorter the spacing, the better the anti-static performance.
Regarding the use of pure cotton work clothes instead of anti-static clothing, we can explain its harm from two dimensions:

Pure cotton work clothes are not easy to generate static electricity, which is related to the moisture absorption of the fabric. The anti-static effect of pure cotton work clothes only becomes apparent when the relative humidity of the air is higher than 50% (water vapor in the air is an electrolytic conductor, so it will prevent static electricity when the humidity is high); When the relative humidity is relatively low, the electrical charge of pure cotton work clothes significantly increases.
Experiments have shown that when the relative humidity is below 30%, the electrical charge of pure cotton work clothes is equivalent to that of polyester; When the relative humidity is below 20%, the electrical charge of cotton fabrics may even be higher than that of some synthetic fabrics. So in dry climate areas, pure cotton work clothes cannot prevent static electricity, nor can they eliminate the harm of clothing static electricity.
